Position: Technical Superintendent – Oil/Product Tankers

Job Summary:

To provide shore support to vessels by handling their day to day technical & operational issues in accordance with the company guidelines, class requirements and international regulations. 

This includes overseeing the daily operations of maintenance, Purchase & Supply of (spares and Stores) and repair, budget adherence, survey schedules, onboard general assessment of vessels, inspections etc. Escalate any “noteworthy” deviations to management for further action. 

An efficient and safe technical management of the vessels ensures minimal incidents, down time and while meeting all stake holders requirements such as owners, charterers and other third parties.

Responsibilities:

The technical superintendent is accountable for the following:

  • Ensuring that machineries on board are well maintained by crew and PMS schedules are duly followed
  • Ensuring vessels all certification are always up to date
  • Monitor and manage operating costs within planned budget
  • Attend the vessels during Surveys as required.
  • Vessel performance analysis basis data uploaded and shared by vessel on regular basis
  • Maintaining vessel incident free.
  • Timely essential supplies of Stores/spares/services to vessel
  • Min or nil observations from third parties inspections.
  • Meet the stipulated budget without compromising safe operation.
  • Primary contact to the ships and the shipowners to provide technical assistance and advice
  • Supervise all technical management activities for assigned vessels
  • Coordinate with the surveys and certifications team to ensure class and certifications regulatory requirements are complied with from to time.
  • Supervise contractors’ repair/maintenance of vessels
  • Formulate long term maintenance plan and ensure that the maintenance planning, execution and control is carried out according to company standards. Ensure conformance to planned maintenance system
  • Devise plans and monitor vessel dry docking, repairs and survey when required and determine repair specifications for dry docking and maintenance
  • Provide and compile documented reports upon completion of dry docking, including summaries of works performed, operational budgets, and actual expenditures
  • Communicate and periodically report to vessels owners about vessel performance, maintenance, costing etc.
  • Maintain regular communication with CE & master for smooth operation of the vessel
  • Send detailed advice on fuel analysis reports and Lube oil analysis reports once received from the laboratories.
  • Monitor vessel performance trends, implementing timely remedial actions where required
  • Accident and incident investigations, risk analysis and mitigation, identifying, implementing and monitoring effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions
  • Initiating MOC, follow up and close the MOC for each critical tacks, vessel Modifications, New engineering installations after detailed risk assessment etc.

Qualifications:

  • MEO Class I – COC 
  • Should have sailed as a Chief Engineer.

Experience:

  • Vessel Experience: Oil Tankers / Product tankers.
  • Minimum 1 year experience as Technical Superintendent in Shore.

Skills:

  • Good knowledge in Microsoft Office

✅ What do you need to bring on board?

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • Experience in tanker operations — especially within biofuels, chemicals, CPP, or crude oil
     
  • A sharp eye for operational detail and a knack for problem-solving
     
  • Confidence in interpreting charter party terms and handling voyage claims
     
  • Solid skills in Microsoft Excel and voyage tracking tools
     
  • Clear and proactive communication with all stakeholders
     
  • A background in seafaring or maritime studies (a plus, not a must)
     
  • Familiarity with bulk carrier operations is a bonus

Focusing on both the operational management of voyages and supporting commercial activities. You will coordinate vessel movements, manage voyage logistics, and collaborate closely with charterers, brokers, and internal teams to optimise performance and commercial outcomes across chemical and LNG tanker fleets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage voyage operations, including issuing orders, coordinating vessel movements, and ensuring smooth voyage execution
     
  • Collaborate with charterers, brokers, and internal teams on voyage planning, bunkering, and cargo operations
     
  • Negotiate and oversee contracts for services such as tugs, agents, bunkers, and slop vendors
     
  • Monitor voyage financial performance, approve invoices, and support technical operations like tank cleaning
     
  • Interpret charter party clauses and manage risks related to vessel quality, insurance, and geopolitics
     
  • Support commercial strategy by preparing proposals, monitoring market conditions, and maintaining client relationships
     
  • Ensure compliance with port requirements and proper communication of voyage instructions to Masters

Candidate Profile:

  • Strong background in tanker operations and commercial roles, ideally with chemical and LNG experience
     
  • Maritime degree or equivalent experience, preferably with sea time up to Chief Officer or higher
     
  • Solid understanding of charter party terms and operational logistics
     
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively
     
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
